Racon Gunner Dispatches
Bring Someone Worth Remembering
Do not build only for the clean victory. Build for the person who has to pay for it.
Armor can survive the person inside it
Then the orders contradicted the oath. The enemy showed mercy. The friend chose fear. The clean plan demanded a dirty price.
That is when the person appears.
Characters are easy to assemble. Competence, equipment, advantages, a role in the group. Those things make play possible. They do not make a person memorable.
Memory gathers around contradiction
The disciplined soldier who disobeys once and saves the wrong life. The persuasive leader who cannot speak when forgiveness is required. The careful planner who sees every danger except the one inside his own certainty. The generous companion who discovers that mercy can also be cowardice.
These are not defects to erase. They are material.
Man of Ages is built around history, psychology, moral conflict, and adventure with consequence. PsychScape puts that promise into play by beginning with personality and carrying the character into historical pressure.
Do not bring a perfect hero
A perfect hero cannot surprise the player who built him. He cannot repent, betray himself, recover, harden, or become more costly to love.
Bring someone whose courage has a limit. Someone whose loyalty can be used against him. Someone who wants two good things that history will not allow him to keep.
Then make the choice.
Years later, the table may forget the modifier. It will remember who opened the gate.
